Trends To Get Excited About!

Capes are going to be, thankfully, a fashionable throw-on for this upcoming Autumn and Winter.  I am excited for this.  I can't wait to get one in every colour.  They just look so comfy and snug.  Teaming this with a chunky scarf and leather gloves.  Yum.  I intend to be snug as a bug once the real cold gets here...

I am very excited about the thought of fashion being influenced by 1950s fashion.  This makes me happy since I know I am going to feel like I've fallen out of the movie Grease, and that certainly is no bad feeling.  I love the length of the skirt featured skirt.  No more tiny, mini skirt thankfully.  It will be winter soon.

I am absolutely in love with the length of the gloves too.  I am excited for this.

I can't wait to curl my hair and wear bright red lipstick whilst wearing my faux fur coat.  For once I think I am actually looking forward to Winter.

Hooray for comfy "man-shoes" too.  I have Brogues in many colours.  Today I bought a black pair which I intend to live in from now on.  I feel they smarten and add a certain charm to my look which I'm not sure I will be able to live without from now on.

This is very unlike me but since we have missed out on Summer this year (or it feels to me.  I guess I was away for said British Summer) I am excited for Winter.  I don't usually like being cold but I feel this years trends are very much my style.  I am definitely excited for spending money I don't have!

Vintage Play Time!

Ooh!  Why is it when I am completely lacking in funds that I find fabulous things that I waaaant?

I am slightly obsessed with jumpsuits at the moment.  I wish I were taller to pull them off.  I might just have to wear heels more often.

This is a glorious 80s jumpsuit for a bargain of only £35 from Rokit.  So VERY tempting.  I am trying to change my style a bit so I don't get stuck in the same jeans/t-shirt rut I keep finding myself in.  On that note, I really should do some more outfit posts.

There is a BEAUTIFUL one in Topshop at the moment which is WAY out of my very modest price range.  Alas.

Another beautiful playsuit from Rokit yet again.  £45.  Eek!

80's, much?  Absolutely love it.  Rokit.  £50.

Sigh.  I might have to bite the bullet and just got for it.  I might not be able to control myself!

I am slightly in love with Rokit.  Check it out for all sorts of glorious Vintage goodies!

What Time Is It, Mr Wolf?

Well, if I had one of these bad boys, I would always know the time.

This is from Hannah Makes Things again.  My favourite new jewellery website.  Please check it out.

I can only imagine how beautiful that watch/necklace would be.  Oh, how I wish, yet again (for the millionth time) that I were rich.  If I were a rich girl...

Online Window Shopping Never Hurt Anybody...

Two potential new loves in my life.  Once I've been paid anyway.

From a fabulous website called Misguided Fashion.

Some fabulous purchases to definitely be bought there.  Check it out!

You can't tell on this photo but this playsuit has a skeleton print on it.  Too cute.

My New Favourite Purchase

Yes.

I have just bought myself a harmonica necklace.

Thanks to More magazine, I came across this cute website Hannah Makes Things.  I wish I had enough money to buy one of everything on the website but I behaved myself but just HAD to get a tiny  harmonica to hang around my neck.

Beautiful.

Best purchase ever.

Official.

I've Forgotten How to Dress Myself

Since travelling I feel like I've lost my sense of style.

My style has changed.

I think it is completely due to the lack of variety I've settled into having from living out of a 65 litre backpack.  The whole time I was away I was craving my wardrobes and since being home I've ended up wearing the simplest of things just because it is less effort.  Plus, I must have grown used to living with just the essentials and looking scruffy since it didn't matter.  I didn't even wear makeup.

I need to have a proper sort out of my wardrobe situation and try and jazz it up.  It's not like I'm lacking in clothes, in fact probably the complete opposite.  Hmm. Maybe I should use my textiles skills to try and renovate my clothes to make something more interesting.

I might use this chance for a change.  I'll keep you posted.

Sunshine Sequin Central

(New Look - Sequin Top, Cardigan - Primark, Shorts - Primark, Tights - Primark, Watch - ASOS)

Figured I hadn't done an outfit post in ages.
Thought it was only right to wear sequins in the sunshine.

Flick came out to join me. Although, she just wanted to play catch with me so she kept lobbing her broken frisbee at me. Then she decided the frisbee tasted good so she started munching on it instead. She is one silly mutt.

Geeks Unite and Roller-skate

Myself with one of my favourite people in the whole world.

Geeks R Us.

This was on Easter Sunday, at a roller disco in Vauxhall, London. I feel pleased with my geek look and I found it (hopefully surprisingly) easy to dress as a nerd. It was fancy dress before you ask, I don't usually dress in so many patterns that it makes your eyes want to fall out of your head.

Anyway, good times were had and I promised I would post these shots. I even have permission from Miss Cooksley too, so I had to.

Emoting floral obsession...

I am emoting a lot of love for the Primark floral top. I love it because I can layer pretty much everything over it. I just can't help myself.

(The fabulous floral top - Primark, Rose top - Matalan, Jeggings - New Look, Cardgian - Primark, Shoes - H&M, Rose ring - Accessorize, Pendant - River Island)

(My favourite flower ring from Accessorize. I can't help but play with silly effects on iPhoto - My nail varnish is actually red. Mental.)

(Some of my favourite shoes courtesy of H&M)

I've started sketching fashion ideas for the first time in about five years. Part of me still regrets not pursuing a degree in textiles and fashion but since music was more of a strength, it made sense to do a Music degree.

I will be sure to put some fashion sketches up on here once they are finished.

I guess I am using my blog to host my ideas so I don't lose my love for fashion.

I am going to start making more clothes and accessories, especially I have so many fashion orientated pals for are so clever with their various machines to make beautiful things. I need them to teach me a bit so I can get practiced before I potentially have to teach textiles...

On a completely different note, I am going to a roller disco in London tonight so I will be sure to put up some ridiculous photos of me dressed as a geek on here for you to laugh at. I think its actually a great idea for fancy dress and its worrying how easy I have found dressing as a geek to be. Hmm.

Anyway, over and out, my dears xxx

Floral Fantastique!

(Floral top - Primark, Pink Crop top - New Look, Denim Shirt - New Look, Leggings - Primark, Heels - New Look)

I am completely in love with this floral Primark top. I am now wearing it everywhere. Who would have thought a £4 top could bring someone so much joy? Completely by accident, I bought this crop top which matches the Primark beauty perfectly. YAY! I do love it when things like that happen.

This week has been crazy busy. I currently have concerts coming out of my ears! This is the best way to be though, I kinda love the rushing around like a headless chicken feeling. Keeps me out of trouble and I think I strive under pressure.

Today it is T-minus 3 weeks until we go a-travelling! Earlier this week, the kids at school found out that I am leaving for a term. Their response was so lovely, it made me a bit sad that I am leaving. I feel a little bit like I am abandoning them, especially my jazz banders. Sigh. I am sure that it will feel like I never went away as soon as I step back into school, haha.

Over and out... xxx

I would like to write an inspiring melody...

Ok, so I am getting seriously excited about going away and have a holiday outfit to share! To top the day off there is even some sunshine today - hurrah!

(Hat-H&M, Body/Top-New Look, Trousers-River Island, Wedges-Matalan)

The sunshine always motivates me - I practically jumped out of bed and skipped downstairs to wash my car which hasn't happened for about a year!

On a completely different note, today I have been listening to some old CDs that I don't listen to much any more. I am currently listening to 'Classic FM at the Movies'. I love film soundtracks. I find listening to soundtracks fascinating and after seeing the visuals there is an added depth of emotion that instantly swells within me. It is amazing that just listening to something can do that.

(Gladiator shot from Google images)

One of my all time favourite soundtracks is 'Gladiator', composed by Hans Zimmer. There are parts of that soundtrack that create contrasting emotions; for example the battle theme is rivoting and makes me want to grab a sword and march off into battle whereas the love theme makes me want to cry a little bit because it is that beautiful.

I definately need to fill my ipod full of classical soundtracks since I had forgotten how beautiful they can be.

(The Piano - image from Google images)

I am still trying to play the main theme from 'The Piano' called 'The Heart Asks Pleasure First'. The film I found strange yet beautiful, and knowing the context of this piece changes how I play it. It is taking me forever to learn this piece since I've not been playing piano for very long and my fingers don't want to move in the way they should. More practice is needed!

On that note... I should actually go and do that practice I keep threatening to do...

Popcorn, please?

Skirt - Republic, Top - Matalan, Cardigan - Matalan, Leggings - New Look, Boots - Tesco, Scarf - H&M

This is what I wore after I got home from a hard day of looking after 20 8-12 year olds in a busy leisure centre. I needed to wear something other than jogging bottoms or a massively oversized polo shirt. Although I feel comfy at work, I don't exactly feel myself. I even had to buy a pair of trainers to work there...

My Art Deco fork bracelet from Covent Garden Market.

I am going to the cinema tonight to see 'Youth in Revolt'. I love Michael Cera, it's ever since 'Superbad' and 'Juno'. I just love the character he plays in those films.

Image found at: http://www.filmofilia.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/01/youth_in_revolt.jpg

Empire gave 'Youth in Revolt' 4 stars which is means this film is going to be pretty damn good. I am a bit of a religious Empire reader and I do rely on Empire to dictate which films I see (I am reluctant to see a film with less than 3 stars nowadays). I am also a bit of a cinema geek, I try and make it once a week to see a film (Thank you Orange for your Orange Wednesdays - you do make my week).

The next film on my agenda is the 'Princess and the Frog'. I am a not-so-secret Disney fan. Any non-Disney fan would tut and shake their head in disapproval at the state of my DVD collection. I can't help myself though. There is something about Disney that I can't help but love.

Anyway, I am about to head to the cinema. Maybe I will write my own film review... Watch this space!

Bye Graham!

This is a very sad post. One of my favourite people in my life is moving to Australia to four years to do a PhD. As we live in not-so-sunny England, it's going to be so hard to see him from this side of the planet. Luckily, we are going to Australia as part of our travelling so it's not actually too long until we see him but it was still very sad. It feels a bit like the end of an era.

This is Graham. He is holding a piece of art my friend Claire made for him. It is beautiful. For more info on it go to her blog: http://pingo-and-me.blogspot.com/

Oh Graham, I will miss you and the hilarity you bring to every situation.

Since it was a special occasion, I told this as an opportunity to take another outfit photo...

Thursday, 4 February 2010

I figured that I don't write enough about music on my blog. Especially considering I teach it all day, then rehearse in the evenings, go to piano lessons and the like... So I thought I would mix two of my favourite past times - fashion and music.

So this is my fabulous piano. I bought it last summer. It has been well played by me already. You wouldn't think it was made in 1979, would you? I think it's beautiful and although it cost me a lot of pennies, it will be with me for my whole life.

I am currently learning "The Heart Asks Passion First" which is the main theme from the film "The Piano". It is a beautiful piece by Michael Nyman.

This is what I wore yesterday evening:

Skirt - River Island, Top, tights and belt - Primark, Ankle boots - New Look

I wore this just to the local pub but I was dressed rather boring at school so felt the need to dress prettily. Plus, I had just got back from a trampolining session and needed to feel a bit less ick.
I am getting so inspired reading other people's blogs. I find them fascinating. I can't help but nose at other people's style.

I think I should probably write about what my friends wear more as they inspire me the most. I like that we all have our own styles yet they can still influence what I wear. There are aspects of their styles which look amazing on them but wouldn't suit me at all. I think that's the main reason I love fashion - every gets to be as unique as they want to be.

Until next time.

Which Blog, What Blog, Why Blog?

I can't decide what path I want my blog to take. Fashion is definately one of my passions in life yet since I am going travelling soon, I think I want my blog to be a photo diary of my experiences whilst I am away. Since I'm not away until April, I'll keep it fashion themed until then.

Dress - Topshop. Shoes - New Look. Belt - Primark. Necklace - Primark.

(Please forgive my sleepy look in the photo above!)

Anyway, this is what I wore out on Friday night. I went out with two of my best girl friends. It turned out to be a fabulous night with lots of laughs. I needed it after a long week... Although, I don't think it helped since I ended up with tonsillitis at the end of the weekend. So now, I am currently writing this since just getting back from the doctors. Good times.

This is what my lovely chum Kerry wore:

Dress - Topshop. Tights - Topshop.

I'm not sure where her bow is from but I want one.

Sadly I don't have any photos of Zoe Green's outfit. This is a shame because she was wearing what I found for her when I was acting as Gok Wan.

The reason I don't have many fashion photos up at the moment is due to my complete lack of funds. My money is going purely on to everything travel related at the moment such as hostels, hiking boots, sleeping bags etc. It is pretty exciting though so I don't mind.

I can't remember if I mentioned where I am actually travelling to...

I am going to Thailand, Australia, New Zealand and California. All in all, I am away for about 3 months.

I am very excited!

A.K.A. Gok Wan

Jumper: H&M Necklace: A random stall at the Clothes Show Live

I have been shopping today. It was wonderful. I haven't been shopping in forever. I haven't fancied much in the sales until today. I bought a beautiful pair of Topshop pumps which were a bargain - £28 down to £7! They are shiny too, which in my opinion as a magpie makes them even better!

Blue pumps: Topshop

Also, another fantastic purchase was this glorious H&M jumper which has the cutest glittery bow sewn into it. It is so comfy and I can see many different outfit combinations with it.

Jumper: H&M. Jeggings: Matalan. Pumps: Topshop. Necklace: Random stall from Clothes Show Live.

The reason I have titled this entry as 'A.K.A Gok Wan' is because I felt like Gok today. For those of you who don't know who Gok Wan is, he is one of Britain's best fashionistas. He is a stylist that focuses purely on High Street VS Designer. He has lots of TV styling shows here in the UK which are fabulous to watch. That man has many a useful styling tip!

Anyway, my friend Zoe Green (that is what we call her, surname included) has a date on Tuesday so we decided to go shopping to find her a fabulous new outfit. As I ran around picking out many different items (some of which weren't Zoe Green's usual style. Zoe Green might not have liked some of the items but she humoured me anyway!) this is when I felt most like Gok. Here I was throwing piles of clothes at Zoe Green whilst the poor girl was forever trying them on. I think we got somewhere in the end though...

We found a couple of winning items from New Look.

http://www.newlook.co.uk/1859053/185905360/ProductDetails.aspx
(Annoyingly I can't seem to get the photos to load).

The theme for the outfit ended up being nautical. It suited Zoe Green very well even if she did declare that she looked like a sailor. I hope her date goes well. I will keep you posted! ;-)

Over and out. x
